Is there a writing app with AI that won’t write my book for me?

Wretify’s AI is a thinking partner, not a ghostwriter. It asks questions, finds the blind spot in an argument, and brings you your own earlier writing and real research. It never edits your manuscript by itself: there are no “write it for me” buttons, and nothing reaches the page unless you press Replace or Insert, or drag it there yourself. Can an AI read everything I’ve written and talk to me about it?

Yes. Once you connect an AI provider, Wretify builds a search index of your books, articles, journal and notes on your own device. The AI partner pulls the relevant passages of your own writing into its answers. The index stays on your device and in your Google Drive; the passages it retrieves are sent to the AI model you chose.

How do I keep track of references and citations in a nonfiction book?

Citations in Wretify are real footnotes. Add one from a fact check or a definition, or drag a cited research finding onto the page — Wretify searches 250 million academic papers through OpenAlex, and never invents a source. Each chapter builds its own References list automatically, and Word and Markdown book exports add a full bibliography.

How do I connect what I read to the chapter I’m writing?

Read in Wretify’s reading room, highlight what matters, and send any saved highlight to your writing. You choose the book or article, the chapter, and the kind of note (idea, resource, quote or reference), so it is waiting in that chapter when you sit down to write. It works on desktop and on your phone.

How do I stop starting new books and finish one?

Wretify lets you keep at most three books and three articles active at once. Everything else waits on your Ideas & Drafts shelf or moves to Finished. The limit is on purpose: working memory holds about three to four things, not seven. The myth of 7 ± 2 →

Where is my writing stored, and what happens if the app disappears?

Every chapter, article and journal entry is a plain Markdown file in a Wretify folder in your own Google Drive. Wretify keeps no copy of your writing anywhere else. If Wretify disappears tomorrow, your files are still there, readable in any text editor. Zero Hostage architecture →

Can I write without reaching for the mouse?

Yes. Every main room — writing, reading, journal, notes, calendar, the AI partner and settings — has its own Alt-key shortcut, Escape takes you back out, and Alt+K (or Ctrl+K) finds everything else by name. Keyboard shortcuts as habit →

Can I dictate without the AI rewriting my words?

Yes. On desktop, Alt+M turns your speech into text at the cursor, word for word, with no AI rewriting and no API key. On recent versions of Chrome it can run entirely on your device.

Can I hear my chapter read back to me?

Yes. Press Alt+L on desktop, or tap play on your phone, to hear your chapter read aloud from the cursor using your browser’s built-in voices.

Does it work offline?

Once you have opened Wretify on a device, you can keep writing without internet. Your words save on the device and sync to your Google Drive automatically when you reconnect. The AI needs a connection.

Can I export my book, or bring my writing in from Notion?

Do I pay for the AI through Wretify?
