Does my writing software use my writing to train AI?

The short answer
It depends on the company, and often on the plan. Most large paid services say in their terms that they do not train AI on your content by default: Anthropic’s API, Google’s paid Gemini API, Google Workspace, Microsoft Copilot for work accounts and Notion. Free tiers are where that changes. Google’s free Gemini API may use what you send to improve its products, and people may read it; Grammarly’s individual plans train by default unless you switch it off; DeepSeek trains by default and stores data in China.
So the useful question is not which brand, but which plan, and whose key.

Does Wretify train AI on my writing?
No. Your writing is plain Markdown in your own Google Drive, not on Wretify’s servers, so there is nothing for Wretify to train on. When you use the AI, your request travels through Wretify’s server to the AI company you chose, and Wretify does not log or store its content.
What happens next is decided by that company’s terms, and Wretify lets you choose which company. Wretify works with your own key from Anthropic (Claude), Google (Gemini) or DeepSeek. If you are writing a book you have not published yet, the table above is the thing to read before you pick one: a Claude key or a paid Gemini key are not used for training by default; a free Gemini key may be, unless you are in the EEA, Switzerland or the UK; DeepSeek’s policy says it trains by default.
How do I check a writing app I already use?
- Find where your text is stored: on your device, in your own cloud, or on the company’s servers.
- Find the AI provider it sends text to — apps often use another company’s model.
- Search its privacy policy and help pages for the words train and improve.
- Check whether the answer changes by plan; free plans are the most common exception.
- Look for a switch in your account settings, and turn it off if you want to.
